John 21:3
“Simon Peter said to them, I am going out to fish.”
Simon was a fisherman when he met Jesus that was the life he knew. Peter would have felt safe fishing, he would have known what to expect. When Peter decided to go fishing that night, he was possibly making a decision to go back to what he knew, back to where he first met Jesus. Sometimes that’s a good move, sometimes we need to go back and remember the day we first fell in love with Jesus. The day that changed our lives, Peter went back to fishing, the story tells us that he fished all night and caught nothing. Peter’s life changed from being a fisher of fish to in becoming a fisher of men, he could not go back and become a fisherman again but what he could do and what we all can do is to discover our first love of Jesus again. There is a quote that says, “it is possible to look like a saint in the courts of Babylon, yet be a backslider in the courts of Zion.” The world around you can think you’re a saint but your relationship with Jesus can be anything but right. In John 21, Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved him. Finally Peter replied, “Lord you know I love you.”
