Matthew 5:13-16
Salt and Light
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

We are a shining light,
City on a hill that can’t be hidden: A shining light.
And this shining light is the life of Jesus in us: Oh what a light.
The fire of his spirit burns with justice, joy and peace.
And works through our hands and feet.

We are salt of the earth,
Here to purify and flavour: salt of the earth.
Sent through all the earth to love God and love our neighbour: salt of the earth.
As freely as we receive, so freely we must give
And we are his hands and feet.

June 13th 2010

This week we say a massive thank you to employees from Cadbury's as they rescued the jungle down the side of the hall and turned it into an amazing space!

Matthew 16:24-26

"Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?"

Will you come and follow me
if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don't know
and never be the same.
Will you let my love be shown,
will you let my name be known,
will you let my life be grown
in you and you in me?

Will you leave your self behind
if I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind
and never be the same.
Will you risk the hostile stare
should your life attract or scare,
will you let me answer prayer
in you and you in me.

Will you let the blinded see
if I but call your name?
Will you let the prisoner free
and never be the same.
Will you kiss the leper clean
and so such as this unseen
and admit to what I mean
in you and you in me.

Will you love the 'you' you hide
if I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside
and never be the same?
Will you use the faith you found
to reshape the world around
through my sight and touch and sound
in you and you in me?

Lord your summons echoes true
when you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you
and never be the same.
In your company I'll go
where your love and footsteps show.
Thus I'll move and live and grow
in you and you in me.

Monday 7th June

The picture above is a reminder of Pentecost - taking the gospel onto the streets of Clapton - it was fun - if you missed, never mind - we will do it again!

Yesterday we remembered that God loved us so much that he sent Jesus so that we, that is you and I could be saved.

For God so loved the world he gave,
His one and only Son,
That all who trust him and believe,
Have life for ever on.
And if I were the only one,
Who let him down and turn away,
He'd still love me as his own,
And just for me he pay!

I don't know how you are feeling today, what I do know if that each one of us is loved very, very much by Jesus - so what ever you are facing, face it knowing his presence every moment of every day with you!

3rd June 2010

"Have you heard about the Teacher from Nazareth?
They say he can cure all kinds of illness.

In those days when only the rich could afford a doctor, the news spread fast. Where ever Jesus went, sick people came to him - and he made them well.
He cured the blind.
He cured the deaf.
He cured the dumb.
There was no illness of mind or body that Jesus could not sure. God gave him special power to heal. And when they saw what he could do, people began to believe what Jesus said."

Taken from The Lion Children's Bible.

Today no matter what you are facing and today is everyday.

Remember and live in the knowledge that the Jesus of 2000 years ago who walked this earth, walks with you in your situation today!
